Apalachicola Historic District
The Historic District of Apalachicola was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in November, 1980. The District is bounded by the Apalachicola River, Apalachicola Bay, 17th Street and Jefferson Street. It encompasses approximately 4600 acres, and contains 652 historic buildings dating to the mid-1800s and early 1900s. Architectural styles include Queen Anne, Greek Revival, Folk Victorian, Gothic Revival, Second Empire, Craftsman Bungalows, Gulf Coast Cottages, and influences of English Vernacular and Art Deco. The City of Apalachicola’s Architectural Guidelines for the Historic District are firmly based on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards of Rehabilitation, and three basic guidelines: Identify, Retain, and Preserve.
